This error 0x80072F76 means: "ERROR HTTP HEADER NOF FOUND". That is the HTTP header cannot be found.

Suggestion one:

It you have installed an Internet accelerator (web accelerator) such as
NetZero HiSpeed, or similar, disable it and go to Windows Update.

Suggestion two:

If the first suggestion has not solved the issue, or you have not got
any web accelerator, try this: Start > Run and type in this lines, and
hit ENTER key after each one:

net stop wuauserv
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
net start wuauserv

Reboot Windows and go to Windows Update.

FOOTNOTE: for this second suggestion, you can automatically register the
dll files by downloading and clicking twice on this cmd file.
