This 0x800B0109 means: "CERT E UNTRUSTED ROOT". That is, the process terminated in a non trusted root certificate.

Start > Run and type in this lines, and hit ENTER key after each one:

regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll

Reboot Windows and go to Windows Update again.

FOOTNOTE: these dll's can be registered in an automatic way by downloading
and clicking twice on this cmd file.
