This error 0x800A01AE means: "IXP NNTP NO SUCH ARTICLE FOUND". It is possible that a selfupdate needs a restart which has not been done.

Start > Run and type in this lines and hit ENTER key after each one:

net stop wuauserv
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
net start wuauserv

Reboot Windows and go to Windows Update.

FOOTNOTE: this dll's can be registered at a time by downloading and
clicking twice on this cmd file.

yo tuve el mismo problema con Windows 2000 pero no me funcionaba con tu solucio , pero si con una mas completa

I recently installed WindowsXP (upgraded Version) and couldn't get the Windows Updates, got the [Error number: 0x8007043B] I followed your advise and had no trouble after that. Why can't Microsoft be as helpful? Many thanks for all the help.
