This 0x8024401B means "SUS E PT HTTP STATUS PROXY AUTH REQ". That is, a 407 error related to proxy authentication.

 Start > Run and type in

 net start MSIServer

 Go to Windows Update again.

This also fixed it for me! I've set the service to start automatically now, so hopefully it will always be working in the future. Thanks!
